Camiguin marks 57% increase on COVID-19 cases, restricts movements

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Noting the 57 percent increase of coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 cases, here, as reported in the Northern Mindanao Task Force (NMTF) on COVID-19 Meeting, June 2, Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo said the province has requested for a moratorium on receiving visiting residents including locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

The Regional IATF has granted the request of the province and the moratorium will take effect until June 1-17.

“Wala sa ta’y dawaton except essentials or emergency. Ang returning Camiguingnons nga gusto muuli, ato sang pugngan (We will temporarily not accept [returning individuals] except for essential or emergency travels. We will restrain the returning Camiguingnons who wish to go home),” Romualdo said adding that the moratorium exempts the returning overseas Filipino workers (ROFs) and authorized persons outside of residence (APORs).

During the Serbisyong PPR (Pagpauswag, Pagpalambo ug Responsableng Panggobyerno) radio program, June 4, Romualdo said the province has recorded 24 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of June 4 of which 11 are placed at the province’s isolation units and 13 are availing the no quarantine policy.

“Naa na ta’y local transmission so kuyaw kaayo. Daghan na kaayo diri. I hope dili na mo magfake news o mag-false news (We already have a local transmission, thus, it is now more dangerous. There are more COVID-19 cases here. I hope you will not spread fake or false news),” the governor added.

Aside from the moratorium request, the provincial government also adopts the alternative work arrangements, particularly the employment of a skeleton workforce, June 1-15, to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in government workplaces.

Romualdo also requested the Philippine National Police (PNP) to enforce monitoring even after the province’s imposed curfew as well as he has suspended the activities of acoustic bands.

The COVID-19 vaccination in the province is also ongoing and the A4 priority group that includes the stores, cashiers and truckers are scheduled, June 7-9.  Receiving the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines, Romualdo said, “Every vaccine approved sa (by) FDA [Food and Drug Administration] is very safe. Okay gyud siya gamiton (This is good for utilization).”

The governor stressed that beefed up measures are implemented in the province since they are still waiting for the completion of the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory in Camiguin by the end of June 2021.

As of June 4, there are 211 persons with history of travel or COVID-19 exposure of which 98 are from Mambajao, 65 from Mahinog, 11 from Guinsiliban, 3 from Sagay, and 34 from Catarman. (RTP/PIA10)
